Co-Op Role in Neuromuscular Research

The Co-Op position at the Neuromuscular Research Group of Dyne Therapeutics, based in Waltham, MA, is focused on training the individual in a variety of laboratory techniques for supporting the analysis of biological samples. This role spans a period of six months starting in July and cannot be performed remotely.

The individual will be a core member of the team and will play a vital role in understanding the molecular and cellular phenotypes of neuromuscular disease models both in vitro and in vivo. They will also participate in the identification and characterization of new therapeutic compounds using these relevant models, contributing significantly to discovery research in a challenging intellectual environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Co-Op will have several primary responsibilities that include performing manual and automated extractions of nucleic acids and proteins, conducting qRT-PCR and protein-based assays, as well as maintaining cell cultures and executing cell-based assays. Accurate documentation and clear record-keeping of experimental work are critical to the role, along with supporting histology and microscopy workflows. Analysis of data and effective communication of findings to the team members are also part of the job.

The individual will engage in experimental design, assay optimization, and literature reviews to enhance their understanding and contribute to the research efforts.

Education and Skills Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a BS/MS degree or be pursuing a degree in a biological discipline, with a preference for those with hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques. However, willingness to learn and a strong work ethic are most important. Skills in handling biological samples, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, and gene expression analysis are beneficial.

Other required attributes include excellent organizational skills, the ability to work in a team, clear communication, and proficiency with software applications like Prism, Excel, and PowerPoint.
