Overview of the Product Marketing Team

The Product Marketing team is a crucial component of our dynamic and high-growth Marketing organization, directly influencing the overall growth strategy. The team's core functions encompass driving the growth strategy via content creation, product launches, sales enablement, and strategic Go-To-Market (GTM) activities. Our primary objective is to ensure that our programs and activities lead to consistent customer activation, engagement, and retention. This is achieved through close collaboration with various teams including Product Management, Growth, Demand Generation, and Sales.

Role of a Product Marketer

We are in search of an experienced and proficient product marketer to become a vital member of our Product Marketing team. In this pivotal role, the product marketer will be responsible for influencing the messaging aimed at the data practitioner audience. This encompasses orchestrating product and feature launches, gathering competitive intelligence, and crafting a GTM content strategy across our product line.

The successful candidate will play a vital part in ensuring that potential and existing customers recognize the essential role of Airflow within their data ecosystems. You'll also communicate why Astro is the cutting-edge platform for DataOps and the optimal environment for executing Airflow applications, alongside guiding customers on how to initiate their journey with these tools.

Responsibilities and Expectations

The responsibilities and opportunities associated with the role include:

  • Messaging and Positioning: Develop compelling messaging, articulate product differentiation, and highlight our unique market positioning.
  • Launches: Collaborate with Product Management to define feature releases. Plan and execute comprehensive launches in partnership with Demand Generation and Sales.
  • Content Creation: Work with Developer Relations, Product Management, Demand Generation, Web, SEO, Sales, and Partner Marketing to identify content gaps and develop high-quality technical content.
  • Field Enablement: Create product and technical enablement resources that help field sales teams with prospecting, pipeline generation, and educating buyers on our differentiation.
  • Event Support: Develop messaging and content for events. Represent the product area at field events and meetups.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Analyze industry trends, research competitors, and produce cohesive sales consumable battlecards.

Qualifications and Ideal Candidate Profile

As for the qualifications and ideal candidate profile, the requirements are as follows:



  • A minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience in product marketing or product management, particularly within data infrastructure, database management, data engineering, or related fields.
  • A BA/BS degree is preferred, though relevant experience will be equally valued.
  • Familiarity or experience with workflow management, pipeline development, ETL, and/or the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) will be advantageous.
  • The ability to effectively communicate the value of a product or service to a technical audience is essential.
  • Experience in leading product or feature launches and contributing to larger launch initiatives within a team setting.
  • Possess a collaborative spirit, a sense of ownership, and a willingness to learn.

Bonus Qualifications

A competitive applicant will have:

  • Familiarity or expertise in working with Airflow or similar data products.
  • Knowledge of Data Engineering, ETL, Observability, DBMS, or Data Warehousing products.
  • Experience in commercializing open-source projects.
  • Background in developer-focused products.
  • Understanding of cloud computing, CI/CD principles, and modern data engineering best practices.
  • An MBA or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Product Management, or a related field.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $125,000 to $150,000, accompanied by an equity component. It is important to note that this range is an estimate, reflecting a willingness to consider candidates with varying levels of seniority. Actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
