The responsibilities for the Data Scientist role at Study.com are diverse and impact various aspects of our data operations. The successful candidate will focus on creating and updating ETL processes in response to the evolving needs of our data infrastructure. Building compelling data visualizations and reports using Tableau is a crucial task, enabling us to convey complex information in straightforward and actionable formats. Additionally, the candidate will be key in developing and maintaining machine learning models, which may include neural networks, logistic regressions, boosted trees, and k-means clustering, among others. This role also involves sharing the management and maintenance responsibilities of our data warehouse, which processes a high volume of data events daily through a Kafka queue, a 20-node Cassandra cluster, a sizable relational database, and a seamless integration with Google BigQuery.
We seek candidates with a substantial background in data science or a related field. Ideal applicants will have 5-7 years of relevant experience, with additional exposure to web analytics as a particularly valuable asset. An academic background with a BS in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field is required, while a master’s degree or PhD is considered a plus. Proficiency in SQL (specifically with Google BigQuery and MySQL) is essential, alongside skills in programming with Python and Java/Groovy. The pace at Study.com is fast and dynamic, demanding a candidate who can handle multiple projects efficiently while demonstrating excellent communication and presentation skills.
While not required, Study.com values candidates who bring additional capabilities, such as experience in creating complex data visualizations using Tableau, a solid understanding of advanced statistical concepts like cluster analysis and gradient descent, and familiarity with web analytics tools and practices. The ability to leverage generative AI tools (like ChatGPT and Copilot) for technical tasks is also highly desirable.
