Job Summary

Openly is actively recruiting a talented Senior Actuarial Analyst for their Research team. As an integral member of this group, the new hire will be responsible for influencing key strategic decisions by examining growth and profitability scenarios across the company's insurance product, reinsurance, and operational facets. The role involves enhancing existing models and analytical frameworks using the latest technology and data science methodologies, aiming to optimize the interpretation of an expanding dataset.

Team Collaboration and Support

The new Senior Actuarial Analyst will be part of the Actuarial & Product Analysis group within the Insurance Product Research team. This role benefits from a collaborative environment which includes support from data scientists and actuarial engineers. The ideal candidate is expected to be self-motivated and excel in a fast-paced, performance-focused workplace.

Technical Expertise

The candidate will work with technologies like GitHub, GCP/BigQuery, and Python—an understanding and working knowledge of these tools is assumed.

Core Responsibilities

  • Improving loss and premium forecasting by developing new methods and strategies to closely monitor actual results, providing novel insights that contribute to product enhancement and organizational success.
  • Working in tandem with Actuarial Engineering and Prediction Engineering teams to build advanced forecasting models. This involves using modern technologies and data-driven insights to establish a reliable forecasting system.
  • Enhancing actuarial analytics by participating in the design process of system improvements or the exploration of new methodologies.
  • Engaging in cross-functional collaboration to understand and influence business results with data-backed recommendations.

Job Requirements

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, or a related field, and have at least three years of experience in insurance pricing, preferably personal lines insurance pricing. Candidates should be underway in their ACAS/FCAS designations with a minimum of 5+ exams completed. The role requires proficiency in SQL and Python, a capacity to navigate ambiguous situations, strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills. Experience with homeowners' insurance is considered an advantage.
