Catawiki is seeking a Data Scientist for its Product Insights team. Situated in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, this full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work within a diverse and dynamic scale-up committed to providing exceptional experiences through its unique marketplace. Catawiki is noted for its eclectic assortment of rare items, including memorabilia, historical artifacts, and collectibles, making it a thrilling workplace.

Job Responsibilities

The role involves a series of engaging responsibilities that center around utilizing data to inform product decisions. Some key duties include:

  • Analytics Ownership: As a data scientist, you will have comprehensive ownership over a broad product area. This is unlike traditional roles in larger corporations where analytics tend to be compartmentalized. You will have the autonomy to lead the analytics efforts for either buyer-facing features or seller experiences, ensuring that the analytics represent the full spectrum of user interaction with the platform.

  • Insights & Recommendations: Your work will focus on transforming raw data into actionable insights. This involves defining and refining key success metrics, deriving trends, and converting findings into clear recommendations that will shape the product development strategies moving forward. The insights you provide will guide critical business decisions.

  • Advanced Analytics Methods: You will employ various analytical methods such as regression analysis, causal inference, and A/B testing to discern user behavior and evaluate the success of new product features. This analytical rigor ensures ongoing improvements in user experience and product viability.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: You will work on developing self-service data solutions that empower product teams. By implementing scalable data pipelines and enhancing data accessibility, you’ll facilitate faster, informed decision-making across the organization. Besides product analytics, you will contribute to foundational data projects to improve the company’s overall data infrastructure.

Required Skills

To excel in this position, candidates must possess certain skills and experiences:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in data science or analytics, particularly within an online environment, is essential.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in SQL is required, alongside the ability to code in either Python or R. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI is critical, as well as experience with data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform.
