Job Description

In your role as a Senior Backend Developer, you will be an integral member of the Incentives Development team, working on a single-page web application leveraging React and Redux. As part of a multidisciplinary team comprised of developers, designers, data scientists, and business professionals, you will help shape the future of the Incentives platform.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Developing new features for the REST API and enhancing the AWS infrastructure using C# and AWS CloudFormation.
• Collaborating closely with product management, designers, and quality assurance teams to implement new features and improvements.
• Conducting code reviews to maintain high standards of code quality, providing valuable insights to team members.
• Optimizing application performance for scalability and low latency, which is crucial for handling large datasets.
• Utilizing various AWS tools such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and Redshift to facilitate development.
• Automating deployment processes and CI/CD pipelines using Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
• Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks to ensure high availability.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will possess:

• 7+ years of backend development experience, focused on data-intensive applications.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, preferably C#, but also Java or C++.
• Extensive experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
• An understanding of ELT/ETL processes and the challenges associated with large-scale data handling.
• Strong fundamentals in software design and passion for writing clean, maintainable code.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a required B2 level proficiency in English.

Role Expectations

The first 90 days in this role are structured to help you integrate into the team and start contributing significantly:

• First 30 Days: You will familiarize yourself with Varicent’s development processes, tools, and codebase. Participation in team meetings will be encouraged as you work on smaller tasks to demonstrate your coding skills.

• First 60 Days: You should begin embracing greater independence in your work, tackling more complex features while adhering to coding standards and participating in code reviews.

• First 90 Days: You will lead the development of significant features, ensuring the application’s scalability and reliability through rigorous testing and performance tuning, while learning continuously and keeping abreast of industry trends.

Work Environment

This position offers fully remote working conditions, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Although team members may be from various locations, collaboration will be emphasized through virtual tools and regular communication. You may work remotely from anywhere, but you need to adhere to Eastern Standard Time (EST) working hours for seamless interaction with your teammates and stakeholders.
