About Usual

Usual is an innovative company that has emerged from the need for a decentralized financial infrastructure that prioritizes users. Unlike traditional stablecoins that operate like centralized banks—focusing primarily on revenue accumulation—Usual aims to return ownership and value to its users. By transitioning users into stakeholders, Usual's mission is to create a fair financial ecosystem that enables value to flow back to the community.

Since its inception, Usual has rapidly developed a protocol and launched two distinct stablecoins backed by tokenized US Treasuries: USD0 and its yield-bearing counterpart USD0++. They have also introduced a revenue-sharing governance token, $USUAL. Within a few months, the protocol attracted $1.8 billion in Total Value Locked (TVL) before stabilizing around $800 million amidst significant product and governance upgrades.

Usual is searching for remarkable talent ready to contribute to their cutting-edge projects in the DeFi space. Joining their team means working at the forefront of decentralized finance, owning your responsibilities, and collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry.

The Team

The technical team at Usual consists of five smart contract developers and three full-stack developers, dedicated to developing decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contract integrations. They create a dynamic environment where innovation is nurtured and ensured. The team is on the lookout for a talented Subgraph Engineer to enhance protocol and dApp development significantly.

Job Role: Subgraph Engineer

As a Subgraph Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to help facilitate the continuous development of the $USUAL reward system. The role demands a strong understanding of DeFi and experience with subgraph integrations. You will focus on the integration of various protocols to track user positions across the known DeFi landscape, particularly concerning USD0++.

The position is not a full-stack role; instead, it concentrates entirely on Subgraph integrations. The following describes the core tasks and responsibilities associated with the role:

Responsibilities

  • Research smart contracts from third-party protocols, documenting events related to the flow of USD0++ within those products.

  • Create technical specifications for tracking new products aligned with an incentivization model such as proportional to nominal USD0++, liquidity pool amounts, and more.

  • Develop new Subgraphs in AssemblyScript for new integrations and extend existing ones to include new incentivized features.

  • Constantly monitor changes in third-party integrated protocols, ensuring that Subgraph integrations remain live and up to date.

  • Debug and resolve discrepancies between predicted rewards and observed economic models.

  • Assist other tech team members (including frontend, backend, and smart contracts) in indexing additional necessary data for off-chain business logic.

  • Enhance performance, reliability, scalability, and security as the system grows, which may include writing various tests like unit and integration tests.

  • Review code submitted by other tech team members related to the area of expertise to ensure quality and best practices.

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to assess future integrations and ensure alignment with overall project goals.

  • Work with the Tokenomics team to ensure that reward distributions adhere to the established models.

  • Engage with the overall tech and product teams on delivery timelines and proposed improvements to architecture, tech stacks, and development processes.

Required Skills

To be successful in the Subgraph Engineer position, you’ll need:

  • Around 3+ years of experience in DeFi, preferably within a startup or high-growth setting.

  • Proficiency with The Graph and AssemblyScript (experience with TypeScript is also beneficial).

  • A solid grasp of DeFi mechanics and common smart contract patterns.

  • Familiarity with Solidity for interpreting EVM smart contracts (knowledge of Vyper is also appreciated).

  • The capability to work independently and investigate as needed.

  • A bonus would be having experience in reverse engineering or ethical hacking.
