Key Responsibilities

As an Import Export Compliance Controller, you will take on several critical responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Managing Special Procedure Imports: Overseeing GB/ROI declarations through the Ricardo Duty Management System, ensuring all submissions meet HMRC requirements while maintaining requisite authorisations and returns.

  • Leading Regulatory Awareness: Acting as the primary contact for all customs matters, you will deliver briefings and training sessions aimed at enhancing understanding of import/export processes across the organization. This includes staying updated on regulatory changes that may influence operations.

  • Monitoring and Auditing Compliance: You will conduct monthly checks, perform audits, and develop strategies for risk mitigation. Additionally, you will focus on optimizing broker usage to help cut costs while maintaining compliance standards.

  • Maintaining AEOC Authorisation: Ensuring that all customs processes align with the Authorised Economic Operator (AEOC) criteria and collaborating with internal teams to manage changes that could affect compliance.

  • Supporting Business Projects: This may involve handling claims for damaged goods, providing support for cross-regional initiatives, and contributing to special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

The ideal candidate for this role will bring a rich blend of knowledge and expertise:

  • A comprehensive understanding of CDS import/export procedures, Ricardo Duty Management System, and USA re-export regulations (e.g., ITAR/EAR).

  • Familiarity with AIS/AES systems (ROI) and the Windsor Framework will be beneficial.

  • Profound knowledge of customs topics including HS Tariff, ECCN classification, Free Trade Agreements, Origin, Valuation, Transit (T1), CCG Guarantees, and Anti-Dumping duties.


  • Experience in managing AEOC compliance and special procedures, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a collaborative mindset, enabling effective communication across different departments and regions.

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach focused on compliance, making sure regulations are followed rigorously.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should meet the following qualifications for this position:

  • Diploma or degree in international trade, logistics, or a related field.

  • Level 3 Certificate or Level 5 Diploma in International Trade from the Institute of Export is an asset.

  • A minimum of three years' experience in customs and international trade environments is required.

  • Familiarity with SAP, DBS, and Ricardo Duty Management System (E2open) is preferable.
