Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Principal Product Manager include:

  • Leading product discovery to identify customer pain points and market opportunities by collaborating with engineering and design teams.
  • Driving product adoption and engagement outcomes, maintaining dashboards and conducting regular business reviews to prioritize and guide the roadmap.
  • Coordinating cross-functionally with engineering, machine learning, data science, and design teams to implement the product roadmap effectively.
  • Partnering with machine learning and content design teams to enhance core agent performance using advanced methodologies.
  • Communicating product strategy, progress, and learns to senior leadership and external retail partners effectively.
  • Aligning business development and market strategies to maximize the impact of launches and product advancements.
  • Scaling Cart Assistant across Instacart surfaces to drive substantial business impact.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years in product management experience.
  • At least 5 years dedicated to designing and launching consumer-facing commerce products, including 2 years focused on live Large Language Model (LLM)-powered products.
  • A proven history of launching at least one product from concept to general availability, demonstrating measurable success in adoption and revenue.
  • Technical proficiency with AI/ML systems and data flows, demonstrating the ability to collaborate with engineering teams effectively.
  • Experience in defining product Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and utilizing experimentation to refine products for the desired outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills aimed at senior leadership and external partners.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical, quantitative, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will have an advantage:

  • A background encompassing both consumer products and B2B/enterprise projects.
  • Experience in the e-commerce, retail, grocery, or marketplace sectors.
  • Familiarity with LLM agent systems and products, as well as large scale experimentation methodologies like A/B testing.
  • Understanding of privacy, trust, safety, and compliance issues related to generative AI products.

Salary and Benefits

Instacart offers a market-competitive salary, which may vary based on the candidate's work location and experience. For the US-based candidates, the following are the base pay ranges depending on the location:

  • California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey: $250,000 - $264,000 USD
  • Washington: $239,000 - $252,500 USD
  • Oregon, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, DC, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Hawaii: $230,000 - $242,500 USD
  • All other states: $209,000 - $220,500 USD
