Position Overview

Imprint is currently seeking a Product Attorney to join their expanding legal team. This role is pivotal as it offers the second hire opportunity within the legal department, allowing the selected candidate to contribute significantly to building the legal function from its foundation. The attorney will be closely involved with product, compliance, engineering, and business teams, serving as a reliable advisor on various regulatory, privacy, data security, and compliance issues pertaining to the company’s product offerings. Focus areas will include the sponsor bank model, credit cards, and other consumer financial products.

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate for this position should have 3 to 7 years of experience in fintech, financial services, or technology sectors, especially with a proven ability to work in a cross-functional manner within fast-paced environments. This role is hands-on, demanding proficiency in guiding the development of innovative financial products while also providing support for commercial and Software as a Service (SaaS) contracting. Credit card experience is considered a strong plus for candidates.

Key skills required include:

  • A law degree (J.D.) and admission to at least one U.S. state bar, preferably in California.
  • A combination of experience from both top law firms and in-house positions within the fintech or financial services industries.
  • Enthusiasm for creating the groundwork for a legal function at Imprint and interacting with product and engineering teams on relevant regulatory matters.
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory and compliance issues specifically concerning fintech, payments, consumer lending, or credit cards.
  • Knowledge of the sponsor bank model and its associated regulatory requirements.
  • Solid understanding of privacy and data security laws, particularly as they relate to consumer financial products.
  • Outstanding drafting, negotiation, and communication skills marked by an eye for detail.
  • The ability to work independently and succeed in a dynamic high-growth environment driven by a proactive, problem-solving attitude.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and eagerness to take on diverse projects as part of a small yet expanding legal team.

Key Responsibilities

As a Product Attorney, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, such as:


  • Advising product and engineering teams on various regulatory, privacy, data security, and compliance issues that affect fintech products.
  • Collaborating with product managers and business leaders to design innovative, compliant, and consumer-friendly product offerings.
  • Supporting the structuring and implementation of products via sponsor bank relationships by championing Imprint’s product vision with partner banks.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS, vendor, and partnership contracts.
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments in sectors such as consumer finance, payments, privacy, and data security, and converting these updates into actionable guidance for internal stakeholders.
  • Creating scalable legal processes and frameworks to accommodate a rapidly growing company.
  • Working in tandem with compliance, risk, and operations teams to ensure that products adhere to applicable laws and industry best practices.
  • Contributing to the establishment of the legal function's foundational aspects, thereby shaping the culture, tools, and strategy under the company’s legal framework.
