Position Responsibilities
The CDI Lead is tasked with various responsibilities that can be classified into two broad categories: lead duties and CDI duties.
Lead Duties (60% of time)
These duties account for approximately 24 hours per week and include:
Overseeing daily review assignments for each CDI Specialist to ensure an even distribution of the review workload.
Covering assignments for in-office staff that are out of office, which may involve ongoing queries and review processes.
Monitoring CDI productivity and monthly project utilization to assess team efficiency.

Performing analytical assessments of data to report results and improve operations.
Conducting monthly quality reviews and presenting findings to management.
Engaging in the recruitment process for new CDI specialists by participating in interviews and onboarding.
Effectively communicating about program updates and challenges to management.
CDI Duties (40% of time)
These responsibilities take up around 16 hours weekly and focus on:
Facilitating proper clinical documentation to ensure correct coding for diagnoses and procedures.
Collaborating with Health Information Management (HIM) staff to promote accurate clinical documentation.
Communicating with various stakeholders, including physicians and case managers, to enhance medical record documentation.
Assigning working Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) in accordance with coding guidelines during reviews.
Engaging with providers regularly to clarify documentation and improve accuracy.
Formulating compliant documentation clarifications to enhance clinical records.
Utilizing specific software systems to track and report outcomes while ensuring the integrity of data collection.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree along with at least 5 years of relevant experience in clinical documentation or coding.
Candidates should hold one of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, RN, MD, or CCS.
A strong foundation in inpatient coding (5 years experience), complemented by a minimum of 3 years of CDI experience.
Knowledge of official coding guidelines and clinical terminology, and strong analytical skills.
Proficient computer skills, especially in EHR systems and Microsoft Office Suite, are essential.
Candidates should exhibit strong communication capabilities and the ability to present information effectively.
While not mandatory, additional credentials like CCDS or CDIP and strong clinical understanding are preferred.
Salary and Compensation
The salary range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $133,000.00 annually. The position may also be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus.
