Role Description

The Digital Design Engineer role is a hybrid of design and front-end development. You will be embedded within the Customer Success team, contributing to both the design and implementation of branded pages directly tied to client relationships. This position involves taking design requests from clients, primarily through Slack and video calls, and executing those requests utilizing various tools and technologies. Your responsibilities will cover all aspects of the design process from ideation to implementation, ensuring that each phase meets both client expectations and internal standards.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Designing and building branded loyalty landing pages using Rivo's builder tools.
  • Translating client brand guidelines into high-fidelity designs using Figma and implementing them with HTML, CSS, and Liquid.
  • Collaborating directly with clients via Slack and video calls to align on design goals and gather feedback.
  • Creating fast, accessible, mobile-first layouts that fit into existing Shopify storefronts.
  • Managing the life cycle of design requests from ideation to QA, ensuring smooth and effective completion.
  • Working closely with other internal teams, including Product, Customer Success, and Engineering, to integrate feedback on design and user experience.

Candidate Profile

We're looking for a hybrid designer-developer who can thrive in client-facing roles. The ideal candidate will have a strong blend of visual design acumen and front-end development skills. Specific traits include:

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and responsive design.
  • Strong skills in Figma for building clean, production-ready mockups.
  • Experience in Shopify and Liquid templating, with a focus on theme editing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients to scope and implement custom solutions.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable to a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to Have

While not required, familiarity with no-code/low-code page builders, Shopify metafields, and basic JavaScript (or working with jQuery) would be beneficial. Experience in agency settings or high-volume client onboarding environments is also advantageous.

Skills Required

To excel in this position, you'll need at least 2 years of professional experience in web design and front-end development. The core skills that will set you apart include:

  • Strong HTML and CSS manipulation skills, particularly in creating responsive designs.
  • In-depth proficiency in Figma for design mockups that adhere closely to brand guidelines.
  • Solid experience with the Shopify platform and an understanding of how to edit themes within Shopify Plus.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with clients or stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • A comprehension of design systems ensuring consistency across projects.

Work Environment & Benefits

Rivo offers a completely remote work environment, enabling you to operate from anywhere with flexible hours, particularly accommodating for North American time zones. Employees can expect a minimum of 18 days of paid time off regardless of their contract status. Moreover, Rivo nurtures a fast-paced, egalitarian environment, steering clear of micromanagement, egos, and corporate drama.

How to Apply

If this role excites you, Rivo invites you to apply by submitting your application, along with a portfolio showcasing both live examples and Figma designs, ideally with a focus on Shopify-related projects. They are looking forward to meeting candidates who are eager to make a significant impact in the realm of eCommerce design and customer loyalty.
