• Deriving detailed hardware and software requirements for control systems and guiding suppliers in equipment design and specification.

• Overseeing the creation of functional design specifications, managing physical system interfaces, and attributing signal-level functionality through system databases.

• Conducting design verification and generating evidence to meet IEC 61508/61511 or equivalent functional safety standards, ensuring compliance and safety justification.

The role is designed to support the Centralised Control and Instrumentation Team, a group that plays a pivotal role in the Successor/Next-Generation Submarine platform's development.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates for this position should possess a number of skills and qualifications, including:

• A degree in engineering (ideally BEng/MEng or equivalent) with a focus on advancing towards professional registration.

• Strong technical report writing skills across the engineering lifecycle.

• Familiarity with defence standards, although this is beneficial but not essential.

• Experience in system calculations, modelling, and analysis.

  

• An understanding of instrumentation and control theory, control system architecture, or functional decomposition.

• A demonstrable ability to interpret and apply systems engineering principles within complex technical environments.
