The position of Senior Marine Production Liaison Engineer at Lateral Naval Architects involves facilitating the bridge between structural design development and shipyard production engineering. This pivotal role requires a deep understanding of both traditional and modern shipbuilding processes, particularly focusing on fabricated steel and aluminium structures. The candidate will act as a crucial point of contact, engaging with the in-house structural design team and various stakeholders throughout the shipbuilding cycle.
The successful candidate will take on several key responsibilities:
Serve as the primary production liaison among the structural design team, shipyards, and classification societies.
Support shipyards during the fabrication and assembly phases, addressing production queries and any build-phase challenges that may arise.
Facilitate the translation of structural design intent into feasible solutions, ensuring considerations such as fabrication methods, tolerances, access, and sequencing are accounted for.
Resolve any conflicts between structural systems, outfit, and production constraints through collaborative problem-solving.
Maintain build progress and quality by adapting to evolving design information.
Provide constructive feedback into the design process, focusing on improving buildability and reducing rework, in order to strengthen future standards.
Technically guide and coordinate structural engineers and designers, ensuring outputs meet production standards.
Support classification interactions by interpreting regulatory requirements with a practical approach to production.
Contribute to ongoing development of production-ready details, standards, and processes that aim to enhance efficiency in shipbuilding.
For this position, the ideal candidate should possess essential skills and experience, which include:
A minimum of 6 years of experience in the marine industry with a focus on shipyard production, fabrication, refit, or production-liaison roles.
A solid comprehension of ship structural design, particularly how it applies to fabricated structures, including local structure and foundational components.
Hands-on experience with steel and aluminium construction, ideally involving block or modular fabrication processes.
Proven capacity to assess technical challenges and apply sound engineering judgment for effective resolution.
Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with designers, shipyard teams, and classification societies.
High levels of organization and self-motivation, with the ability to manage production schedules and deadlines proficiently.
Proficiency in 2D CAD (specifically AutoCAD) for producing and reviewing production-ready drawings.
Although not mandatory, having the following skills or experience can be an advantage:
Experience with 3D CAD tools (such as Rhino or similar) for design interrogation and coordination tasks.
Familiarity with the requirements of Classification Societies and Flag States.
Experience in supporting the construction, commissioning, or refit phases of marine projects.
Expertise in structural analysis can also be beneficial.
An active interest in enhancing buildability, efficiency, and innovation within yacht engineering practices.
