  • Code health records accurately and access charge work queues, assigning charges for ER and Observation services based on medical documentation. The position may also require oversight of observation hours documentation if executed by Healthcare Information Management (HIM).

  • Manage billing, claims, denial, and appeals issues in collaboration with various teams including HIM and Patient Business Services (PBS).

  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff and physicians regarding documentation issues or needs and display a comprehensive knowledge of coding ethics.

  • Maintain awareness of current coding trends and regulations, ensuring the highest standards of compliance are met.

  • Meet the established quality and productivity standards periodically enforced by the Revenue Excellence and HM (Health Ministry) coding procedures.

  • Possess and maintain continuing education units (CEUs) as required by coding credentials.

Required Qualifications

Education

Candidates should possess:

  • Completion of a coding program accredited by either the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • An Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or a closely related field is mandatory. A Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a similar healthcare-related field is preferred.

Certifications

Additionally, applicants should be certified in one of the following:


  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
  • Certified Procedural Coder (CPC)
  • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)

Work Experience
