Job Role

In this role, the Senior Design Engineer will be integral in the design, development, implementation, and analysis of complex technical products, processes, and systems.   • Designing products from scratch (clean sheet) as well as modifying existing "off-the-shelf" components.
  • Developing custom field welding and machining tooling systems.
  • Interfacing with Field Operations, existing design engineers, and the fabrication team to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues effectively while documenting solutions for configuration control.

This position reports to the Engineering Manager of Welding and Machining, and while it is a remote role, travel to nuclear power plants may be necessary to obtain unescorted access in specific instances.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be tasked with numerous responsibilities, including:

  • Preparing 3D models of tooling designs and systems using Autodesk Inventor and producing detailed drawings.
  • Performing calculations to validate design requirements such as strength, mechanics, and machine design.
  • Conducting tooling system qualification and proof of concept testing.
  • Ensuring that manufacturing, testing, and service operations receive the necessary technical support.
  • Assisting manufacturing operations by addressing any technical issues that may arise.
  • Supporting assembly operations through system assembly and bench tests.
  • Executing qualification testing and preparing related data.
  • Troubleshooting operations and equipment assembly issues.
  • Supporting the deployment of both self-designed systems and any legacy systems in the field.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this prominent position, prospective applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, though a Master’s degree or an MBA is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficient understanding and application of part tolerancing for assembly alongside Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault, or equivalent software.
  • Experience working with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, such as Ansys or comparable programs.
