About the Data Engineer Role at OfferUp

OfferUp is on the hunt for an experienced Data Engineer to develop its batch and near real-time data processing platforms. This role is critical for supporting data-driven capabilities across the organization and is not available to US-based individuals. The new hire will impact both the user experience and the backend infrastructure needed to support business intelligence, analysis, and data science.

Responsibilities

The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing applications to manage large volumes of information crucial for analytics and user interface features. They play an essential role in monitoring and resolving issues within the data pipeline and data integrity. Collaborating with various teams is necessary to cater to their data needs, and maintaining and expanding the data infrastructure is an integral part of the role.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of three years in professional software development, with expertise in distributed systems and substantial data processing. Effective communication of technical concepts to diverse audiences is a must, along with proficiency in SQL and Python. Familiarity with a range of open-source data infrastructure projects such as Airflow and Kafka is expected. Experience in building scalable data pipelines, real-time data streams, and in a cloud environment, preferably with AWS, is essential. Additional experience with operational tools like Terraform is highly valued.

Educational Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred. Fluency in English with excellent written and spoken communication skills is also required.
