Responsibilities

In this role, the Animatic Animator is tasked with animating and developing characters and scenes into key poses taken from storyboard panels. This involves focusing on acting, expression, and timing to effectively bring characters to life. The role demands a keen interpretation of the director's vision while maintaining consistency with the established animation style. The animator works intimately with Episode Directors, the Storyboard and Animation Supervisor, and other team members, ensuring that the animated sequences align with the narrative and creative goals of the production.

The animator must maintain a seamless flow of action and pacing, adjusting timing and character poses to meet the story’s demands. Collaboration with Storyboard Artists is crucial to achieving smooth transitions between storyboard panels and final animation keys. Additionally, the animator must troubleshoot and solve creative challenges to accomplish the desired movements and performances. It is essential for the animator to keep up-to-date with production notes, implementing changes and revisions as needed, and updating the production tracker when necessary. Ensuring timely delivery of animations in line with the production schedule is also a fundamental responsibility, requiring attendance at production meetings when needed.



Qualifications

Applicants for the Animatic Animator position must be Texas residents. A strong understanding of 2D animation principles, including timing, spacing, and squash-and-stretch, is required. Candidates should have considerable experience as a 2D animator, with a solid command of character acting and performance, and proficiency in software such as Storyboard Pro, Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Animate, or other equivalent tools. The ability to translate static storyboard panels into engaging performances while preserving the original composition and action is critical.

The role demands excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to feedback effectively. Strong organizational and communication skills are imperative to collaborating successfully with other artists and directors. Knowledge of how storyboarding supports narrative flow, motion hookups, and continuity is necessary, along with experience working under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality. Prior experience as a Board Animator or rough animator in 2D animated productions is preferred, and familiarity with anime-influenced or action-heavy animation styles is advantageous.

Classifications and Compensation

The Animatic Animator position is classified as a non-exempt, full-time employee role and is covered by a Union contract. The compensation for this role ranges from $1,325.60 to $1,450 per week, reflecting the value and expertise required for this critical position within Powerhouse Animation Studios.
