Cohere Health is seeking physicians with a background in Internal Medicine, covering both medical and surgical clinical areas, to contribute to its programs. The role involves determining the medical appropriateness of services by reviewing clinical information and applying evidence-based guidelines. Physicians in this position will report to the Medical Director of Cohere Health and play a pivotal role in a rapidly growing company that aims to impact millions of patients positively.

The role involves supporting the clinical content team in reviewing the company’s clinical decision guidelines and evidence-based literature. Physicians will provide expert input to influence medical care practices and improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities include providing timely medical reviews that meet the company's quality and timeliness standards, conducting peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers, and offering feedback on alternative treatments based on medical necessity criteria and evidence-based research.
Additional duties include accurately documenting all communications and decision-making processes within Cohere's workflow tools, ensuring that members and providers can easily access and understand decisions. The role also involves supporting projects to enhance the team’s clinical expertise and efficiency and contributing to the team’s operational improvements and member/provider experiences.
The role requires the completion of a US-based residency program and fellowship in Internal Medicine. Candidates must hold Board certification as an MD or DO with a current unrestricted state license to practice medicine. Physicians should have a minimum of five years of clinical practice beyond residency or fellowship and must excel in a matrix organization. Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new software tools, along with an understanding of managed care regulatory structures, are essential.
Preferred attributes include two or more years of experience in managed care utilization review and membership in national and regional specialty societies. Cohere commits to assisting employees with obtaining state licenses or registrations as required.
