Bungie's Commitment to Narratives and Role Opportunity

At Bungie, storytelling is at the heart of our game development process. We prioritize authentic representation, diversity, and crafting immersive worlds that offer unique narrative experiences. If you're passionate about stories and character development, you might be interested in joining our team as a Contract Narrative Designer for Destiny 2.

Role Responsibilities and Expectations

The Contract Narrative Designer will play a crucial role in developing the storylines and narrative content within Destiny 2. This involves close collaboration with various small teams to write strings, create scripts, and shape narrative experiences for game activities and missions. Part of the role is participating in a culture of feedback that guides content through each production phase. Key responsibilities include:

  • Aligning with the Narrative Lead and Director to set narrative goals for expansions.
  • Overseeing projects from early stages to final release.
  • Ensuring narratives stay within scope and match the production schedule.
  • Facilitating narrative development through regular documentation and team syncs.
  • Creating and maintaining narrative documentation such as story treatments and character bios.
  • Building and executing the overall narrative vision for expansion campaigns.
  • Crafting engaging dialogue and cinematic content that reflects the franchise's established style.
  • Encouraging storytelling excellence through feedback.
  • Exploring opportunities to enrich narrative channels and content.
  • Fostering a creative and inspiring work environment.

Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should have game industry experience, particularly with AAA games or MMOs, and possess strong communication and collaboration skills. A detailed understanding of narrative design development, including design methodology, craft, production processes, and collaboration with external vendors, is crucial. The role requires the ability to emulate the tone and themes of Destiny and work with proprietary tools. Ideal candidates may also have a background in writing for non-gaming media and experience working on live games.

Pay Range and Work Environment

The base pay range for this role in the greater Seattle area is between $102,000 and $124,000 per year. For remote work approved by Bungie, this amount may be adjusted to match local markets. Additionally, all benefits, time off, and perks are provided by external partners. Bungie encourages people from underrepresented groups to apply, even if they don’t meet every listed requirement. The company is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.

Remote Work and Application Details

This position supports a digital-first approach, allowing remote work in Bungie-approved locations unless specified otherwise for onsite roles. Prospective full-time employees may need to establish residency within an approved area shortly after starting as per company guidelines. While Bungie's remote policy may evolve, it currently accommodates flexible working conditions. If your skills align with the role but aren't a perfect match for every requirement, Bungie still encourages you to apply as the right opportunity may be available for you.
