Key Responsibilities

The Loss Control Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Performing site visits to existing or prospective customer business locations to evaluate operations based on industry loss control practices.

  • Engaging in discussions with business representatives to better understand policies and practices affecting risk.

  • Conducting thorough assessments of facilities and operations to survey potential risks, thus supporting policyholders' loss reduction strategies.

  • Analyzing loss history prior to site visits for a better understanding of the client’s industry, and evaluating associated loss data to identify causes and trends.

  • Producing detailed written reports that document hazards and recommendations for improving risk management within customers’ operations.

  • Collaborating closely with underwriting teams to provide risk assessments that influence policy pricing and risk selection.

  • Marketing and demonstrating IAT's industry expertise, particularly in the Transportation industry, focusing on Trucking and Moving & Storage sectors.

  • Conducting regular follow-up visits to support clients in their risk mitigation strategies, including providing specialized safety training and management information.

  • Performing presentations as needed for sales and marketing purposes to assist in customer retention and acquisition efforts.

  • Travelling extensively (up to 80% of the time) to fulfill job responsibilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To thrive as a Loss Control Specialist, applicants must have:

  • A BS/BA degree or equivalent experience, coupled with at least eight years in loss control (or alternatively twelve years of relevant experience).

  • Experience specifically in the Transportation or Trucking Industry is essential.



  • Ability to obtain necessary licenses and certifications as mandated by state regulations.

  • Familiarity with several professional designations such as Certified Safety Professional or Associate in Risk Management is beneficial.

  • Strong knowledge of current loss control policies, procedures, safety regulations, and environmental codes applicable to the industry.

  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with various stakeholders.

  • Essential analytical abilities to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, while also maintaining a high level of physical fitness to conduct site evaluations in various environments.

  • Applicants must also be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Working Environment
