About Voyant Photonics

Voyant Photonics is revolutionizing machine perception through the development of compact, high-performance LiDAR devices. Their technology is designed to enhance various applications, including robotics, autonomous systems, and industrial automation. Voyant aims to make high-precision sensing accessible and commercially viable, thus bridging the gap between research and real-world deployment. Their breakthrough silicon photonics technology provides remarkable accuracy in range, velocity, and reflectivity at a more affordable price point compared to traditional LiDAR systems.

The Opportunity

Voyant Photonics is currently looking for a skilled Principal Mixed-Signal ASIC Engineer to play a critical role in architecting and building the custom silicon essential for the functionality of their FMCW LiDAR systems. This position presents a unique and valuable chance to lead the ASIC development program at Voyant, overseeing architecture, tools, processes, and the overall technical direction while ensuring the delivery of production chips that drive their product roadmap.

This role reports directly to the executive technical team and encompasses the entire silicon development lifecycle, from concept to volume production. It sits at the intersection of crucial disciplines, including mixed-signal IC design, silicon photonics, systems engineering, and manufacturing. The candidate will have substantial technical authority over driving the ASIC strategy and will lead architecture and implementation efforts, manage external design partners as necessary, and eventually build an internal team as the program scales.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving the development of mixed-signal ASICs from concept through architecture to tape-out and production.
  • Designing ultra-low noise analog front ends, including transimpedance amplifiers that achieve low noise performance.
  • Creating mixed-signal circuits, including ADCs, DACs, and various power management components that interact with silicon photonic ICs.
  • Establishing the ASIC development environment by selecting and deploying EDA tools and defining design verification flows.
  • Collaborating with talented photonics designers and systems engineers to refine electronic-photonic co-design processes and optimize system-level performance.
  • Deciding the architectural partitioning between customized silicon and external components.
  • Managing external digital design partners by providing architectural guidelines and management support.
  • Building and mentoring a high-caliber team of IC designers as the program progresses.

Qualifications

To consider for this position, candidates should ideally possess:

  • At least 7 years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design, preferably with an 80/20 analog-to-digital focus.
  • A solid track record of leading multiple tape-outs from concept to production silicon.
  • Deep expertise in low-noise analog circuit design, especially in components like transimpedance amplifiers.
  • Knowledge of test plan development for analog ASICs at OSAT partners.
  • A strong grasp of mixed-signal design principles, particularly for ADCs, DACs, and power management circuits.
  • Familiarity with working in both mature nodes and engaging with advanced digital designs.
  • Excellent collaborative and communicative abilities.

Preferred qualifications include experience in photonic IC co-design, knowledge of advanced packaging techniques, and a background in design-for-manufacturability. An understanding of commercial IP ecosystems and build vs. buy tradeoffs will also be advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

Voyant Photonics offers a competitive salary along with a meaningful equity package. Additional perks include:

  • Comprehensive health benefits encompassing medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Unlimited paid time off and paid company holidays, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
  • Team events and company meetups that foster connection among employees.
  • A flexible work environment that includes hybrid or fully remote options, with periodic travel to the New York City office for collaboration.
  • Complimentary lunch when working from the NYC office.

Commitment to Diversity

Voyant Photonics is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. They encourage applicants from all backgrounds, ensuring no discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any characteristic protected by law.

This position provides a unique opportunity for a driven engineer passionate about revolutionizing LiDAR technology while working in a fast-paced, deep-tech company. If you possess the required skills and are looking for a role with substantial technical influence, consider applying. It’s a chance to impact the future of sensing technologies, leading development efforts that contribute to innovative solutions in multiple industries.

Overall, joining Voyant Photonics in this role not only opens doors to competitive financial benefits but also allows contributing to meaningful advancements in tech, making it a golden opportunity for job seekers keen on making a difference in cutting-edge technology.
