The Commodity Manager will carry out a variety of essential responsibilities:
Develop and execute commodity strategies achieving quality, delivery, cost, and inventory targets.
Establish and maintain robust relationships with key suppliers, fostering effective collaboration and alignment on risk management strategies.
Analyze current market conditions and the geopolitical environment to incorporate into commodity strategies for effective supply chain risk mitigation.
Negotiate contracts with suppliers of global commodities ensuring the best total cost is obtained. This includes determining discounts, payment terms, shipping arrangements, stocking agreements, and service requirements.
Utilize an 80/20 mindset for establishing strategies that aim to simplify the product and supply base complexity.
Lead cross-functional project teams to implement product complexity reduction strategies and improvements.
Manage the global supply base and incorporate supply chain management tools to continuously enhance supplier performance — addressing any internal supplier issues promptly.
Support product teams in gaining competitive advantages by integrating product roadmaps and current market conditions within commodity evaluations.
Continually assess and evaluate new suppliers, ensuring a well-rounded supply base.
Collaborate with global teams to align resilience strategies around production planning, inventory management, and logistics operations contributing to Viking Pump's Sales, Inventory, and Operational Planning process.
Implement digital tools and technologies aimed at improving supply chain visibility, forecasting, and informed decision-making.
Lead the creation and execution of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) specific to supply chain operations, ensuring readiness to confront disruptions such as natural disasters or global pandemics.
To be a suitable candidate:
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity management within a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in supply chain development in industrial and/or hygienic pump segments is preferred.
APICS or CPM certification is desirable, alongside experience in iron/aluminum casting, metal fabrication, machining, electronics, and/or plastics is a strong plus.
Familiarity with sourcing of machined castings, forged parts, or machinery will be beneficial.
Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) is advantageous, as is mechanical and technical aptitude to comprehend engineering documents including blueprints.
Essential skills for the role include:
Excellent analytical skills to navigate supply chain complexities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is necessary.
Candidates should be prepared to operate within an office and manufacturing environment, facilitating communication through various channels (in-person and via phone). The position may require travel of up to 25% domestically and internationally.
The expected salary range for the Commodity Manager position at Viking Pump is $65,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on the candidate's experience and skills. This position is likely to be eligible for a bonus, other incentive plans, and various forms of compensation as well.
