Job Responsibilities

The Backend Engineer will be responsible for a variety of crucial tasks essential for the performance and reliability of LaunchDarkly's services:

• Develop, enhance, and maintain backend services integral to Flag Delivery systems.
• Engage in the creation of systems that facilitate streaming and polling delivery models for LaunchDarkly SDKs.
• Troubleshoot production issues while proactively improving service reliability.
• Uphold standards surrounding latency, availability, observability, and operability to render an efficient backend system.
• Work collaboratively with various teams, such as SDK, Platform, SRE, and Security, to enhance the overall platform functionalities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, taking ownership over the systems built.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of the existing architecture, making meaningful enhancements aimed at increasing system clarity, performance, and maintainability.
• Employ AI judiciously within engineering workflows, mastering the ability to guide its use and discern its effective application.
• Thoughtfully analyze code, architecture, and overall system behavior even when integrating AI into the process.

Qualifications

Candidates for this role should be equipped with the following qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Proven expertise in building or maintaining production-level backend systems.
• Proficiency in languages such as Go, Java, Rust, or similar, with a current preference for Go in the team.
• Familiarity with distributed systems fundamentals, which includes understanding caching, concurrency, failure modes, and reliability.
• Strong debugging skills, particularly in production environments, enabling systems analysis through observability.
• A keen learning orientation and comfort working alongside more experienced engineers to further develop technical skills.

• Openness to participate in on-call responsibilities as needed.

• Zone 2 (e.g., LA, Austin): $154,100 - $211,860
• Zone 3 (other US locations): $145,500 - $200,090
